Carleton's athletic teams are known as the Knights or the `Carls`, and they compete in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), one of NCAA Division III's best conferences, with 19 varsity athletic teams. Their distinctive colors are maize and blue.
